Guardian Home Opportunities

"Guardian homes"  is a model where a breeding dog is placed with a family as a puppy.  The  responsibility for the dog is then shared by the breeder and the family.

Here at Southern Vermont Golden Retrievers our current breeding stock is part of our day to day lives.

In order to continue to produce healthy, happy puppies with good health, conformation to the breed, and wonderful traits we will need to bring new breeding dogs into the mix.

However our dogs are our family and we have made the decision at this time to let our retired dogs live out their lives at home with us.

We are preparing to introduce pups into Guardian Homes- where they will participate in our breeding program ( if all health testing obligations are passed) and upon retirement stay with their  guardian home as their forever family.

Applications are in the works and we hope to place a male puppy and 1-2 female puppies in guardian homes by 2026.

Please reach out if you have any interest in this potential opportunity.

Why Guardian Homes?

We are focused on health, temperament, and welfare, guardian homes are used to place breeding dogs in loving homes. These homes provide the dog with regular family life while the dog’s breeder retains breeding rights.

  • The dog gets to live in a home environment and is not confined to a kennel or breeding facility. It also allows the breeder to ensure the dog has the best possible health and living situation.

  • The guardian family agrees to take care of the dog as a member of the household. They are responsible for regular vet care, daily exercise, and providing love to a wonderful Golden Retriever.

  • Guardian families get a dog at little or no cost, usually the pick of the litter.
